Sophomore Research Project- Mr. Goeselt

Project Outline

Select one of the following five research questions:

  1. The Enlightenment: Which event was  more influential in creating the modern world - the Scientific Revolution or the French Revolution? Must argue for one over the other while demonstrating an understanding of the impact of both events in creating our world.
  2. The Industrial Revolution: How was Romanticism a response to the ideas and experience of the Industrial Revolution?”- select one Romantic artist, poet, author or musician.
  3. The New Imperialism: How did the New Imperialism affect  the national identity of your selected country over time? - select one: Belgian Congo, India or Japan.
  4. World War II: How did the United States approach the challenge of “Winning the Peace” after World War II? - select either Germany or Japan.
  5. The Cold War: How did the music of the Cold War reflect change over time, from the 1950’s to the 1980’s?

Research Paper Requirements: The research paper will be:

  1. Five (5) pages (ACP) to seven (7) pages (Honors) long.
  2. Submitted in class in “hard copy” format, typed, 12 point font, double spaced with 1” margins AND submitted through Schoology to “Turn It In” by the due date.
  3. Documented with the equivalent of one Chicago style citation per page.
  4.  Supported with a properly formatted  Chicago style bibliography containing at least six sources, including at least one of each of the following: 
    • a book (print or e-book)
    • a primary source (from one of a variety of  sources, ie found in a book, an article, YouTube recording etc)
    •  an article from a  professional database (ie Gale, JSTOR  etc)
    • an encyclopedia article (other than Wikipedia)
    • a newspaper article
    • A YouTube clip from a reputable source
  • Optional: a non-textual artifact- a thing! For example a painting, a dress, a ship, etc. Impress me for (+0-5 points) extra credit! Cited in bibliography.
